    3. Student AchievementMotion by Gregory Boggs and seconded by James Minney to approve. Motion carried. (6:14 pm)An executive order was given in April, limiting the entry of aliens into the United States due to the coronavirus. The order has been extended until the end of the calendar year. Public and private schools, along with colleges and universities rely on immigration thru the J-1 program or other programs used to bring in teachers. This rule was meant to prevent immigration from disrupting the U.S. labor market. We hope to exempt teachers from this rule since teaching jobs given thru these immigration programs are used to fill vacancies we had not been otherwise able to fill and therefore does not affect the U.S. labor market. This motion is to accept the resolution in support of the J-1 program to be exempted from this rule.

  6. Reports of Committees
    1. Roane Jackson Technical Center Administrative Council (7/21/2020)We met in person, except for Mr. Gilman from WVDE, who is still working from home. The federal grant the Tech Center was expecting did not go as expected, but they still have covid-related monies coming from the department to cover those expenses. Adult classes have resumed and protocols for screening are in place. We are looking for guidance on high school students attending the shared tech centers, but we have not heard anything yet.
  7. Superintendent's RemarksThe CEFP process is continuing. We currently have the facilities assessment, which tells us what facilities improvements might cost in the next 5 years. Our total needs by 2030 add up to $30 million, which includes the building of the new SMS. There are so many needs by each county that the current $50 million per year for the SBA is not enough. We hope to now flip the budgeting process. Instead of requesting $50 million from legislature each year and then distributing the money to the counties, we hope to assess the needs of each county first and then go to legislature to request the amount of the needs assessed.
