Board of Education of the County of Roane

January 7, 2021

  2. Presentations
    1. Positively ChargedWe have received our first batch of vaccines, which consists of 70 doses. We should be given more over the next few weeks for our faculty and staff.
    2. Public ParticipationPamela Cain, RCS Speech Language Pathologist, commends RCS faculty and staff for their hard work through this crisis but states her concerns about their safety and the safety of our students as more students return to in-person learning and COVID numbers are rising in Roane County.
    3. Student AchievementUnder order of the Governor, we are in a remote learning period. We will return to in-person learning on January 19th and the moratorium on athletics has been extended to March 1st. Games and practices may happen in February to prepare for March 1st. There has been many changes and counties can now determine for themselves what they will do concerning school closures.
  3. New Business for Consideration and Potential Action
    1. Update of BOE operations during COVID-19
    2. Consideration and Possible Action on Request by Roane County Commission Regarding Geary Library / Health ClinicMotion by Gregory Boggs and seconded by James Minney to contribute $5,000 towards this project. Motion carried. (7:43 pm)

  7. Superintendent's RemarksThe State Board will meet on Wednesday. On the agenda is the annual renewal of our critical needs in shortages policy on substitutes, which allows retired counselors to substitute when needed. Also, our new CEFP is up for approval, which is in consent. Next, we will be submitting an application for funding for the new SMS for the next needs cycle, which is due at the end of this month. Superintendents will be interviewed in March.
