- Superintendent's RemarksThere is a superintendent's meeting tomorrow morning in Charleston with Superintendent Roach. Following that will be a smaller group of 10-12 of us discussing student achievement issues, reading programs, and math programs. Looking into personnel, there are 1500 teaching positions filled with uncertified teachers across the state, with growing numbers each year while our student enrollment declines. Looking further, we find that 1100 teaching positions are supported by ESSERF monies in West Virginia, which run out in 2024. Though we've cut 41 principals as a state in the last ten years, we have added 53 assistant principals. Roane County has downsized our teaching staff as well as administrative staff as our enrollment has declined over the years, while some larger counties may not have been as prudent. When 2024 comes around, it may be that larger counties downsize and the displaced teachers can fill vacant positions here and elsewhere.
- AdjournmentMotion by Daris Harper and seconded by Eileen Richardson to approve. Motion carried. (8:41 pm)
- Adjourn until the next regular board meeting on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at 6:00 pm at Spencer Middle School.
