  2. Presentations
    1. Positively ChargedThough we are embarking on a difficult season in Roane County, we are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the community and that will help carry us through this difficult time. In the future, we will call this the Superintendent Spotlight. We have lots of programs and a lot of positive things that we want to draw attention to in the county.
    2. Public ParticipationBrandi Workman, former RCHS teacher, commended Superintendent, Michelle Stellato for her professionalism at the state board meeting yesterday. She also thanked Dianna Carpenter, former FBLA Advisor, who took our students to the Leadership Conference in Anaheim to represent Roane County.
    3. Student AchievementThe Pre-K core team, made up of representatives from DHHR, Appalachian Council Head Start, Mrs. Ash, Mrs. Tanner and myself, reviewed the program enrollment, which is currently 69 students. With Geary enrollment at 7 students, Walton at 14, and Spencer at 48, we decided to eliminate the preschool classroom at Geary for the 2025-26 school year, which we can reopen in years to come, should the need present itself. The teacher at Geary has agreed, by mutual consent, to transfer to Spencer, to teach the Pre-K classroom that was previously taught by a Head Start teacher. We will apply to make this change with the State Department.

  7. Superintendent's RemarksWe have provided paper copies of attachments to the agenda today. We hope to be able to attach them in the future. One of the items in your packet shows personnel actions in the 25/26 school year. I want to give a shout out to the summer staff. Summer SOAR started this week and it has been a great start thanks to the collaboration of teachers, transportation and the board office. We're serving 50 children and are operating under budget. Our principals are going to be attending the WV Leadership Conference. We have been working all year with five collaborative counties, sponsored by Franklin Covey. We are ready to get together to start strategizing how we will move forward. I'm grateful to them for stepping up to go beyond their job to work hard on this. Lastly, Dr. Tom Williams, former Kanawha County Schools Superintendent will be mentoring me. He's been so helpful so far and the state department covers the cost for mentorship for my first year.
