   1. Positively ChargedEach school has nominated their Teachers and Service Personnel Teacher of the Year. Lorra Tanner (GEMS), Becky Boggs (GEMS), Amanda Cooper (SES),Rebekah Nelson (SMS),Kristina Starcher (WEMS), Misty Carper (WEMS), and Candace Deweese (RCHS) were nominated for Teachers of the Year. Melissa Strickland (GEMS), Kelly Sutphin (SES), Dawn Fore (SMS), Amy Morris (WEMS), Shannon Stockner (RCHS), Gary Harold (Transportation), and Merlin Shamblin (Transportation) were nominated for Service Personnel of the Year. Roane County Service Personnel of the Year is Dawn Fore (SMS) and Roane County Teacher of the Year is Kristina Starcher (WEMS). They will now have an opportunity to apply to represent us at the state level.

      • Pandemic Learning Loss Completion
      We have a number of completions for the Pandemic Learning Loss course. SMS had the highest completion rate of over 50%. Now that some teachers in the county have completed, the administrators can do their part to develop a school-wide plan and therefore allowing us to start on the county-wide plan. The state allowed us to take a benchmark test that is part of our overall accountability system, the WV GSA. We should have some data at our next meeting to try to figure out best where we stand and how to move forward from here.

7. Reports of Committees
   1. Roane-Jackson Technical Center Administrative Council (4/20/2021)A number of students placed at the top of their categories at the West Virginia SkillsUSA and Educator's Rising competitions. These were virtual competitions We hope to recognize them at a future board meeting. A promotional video was made for RJTC to highlight their offered programs. This is something we may want to consider for the future. The water plant may finally be ready for construction this summer, but this may affect our Summer plans. They are currently working on some contingency plans since the building cannot be occupied while they are working on this 5-week long project.
8. Superintendent's RemarksNow that we have the SBA grant, we can start moving forward. While we have hired Thrasher to work on the bond program and the CEFP, we haven't hired anyone to work on the school. So, will need to hire an architect to work on this school and then go through an educational planning process where we think about what kinds of programs we want to offer and the space requirements for them. We hope to have a groundbreaking ceremony in October. This will be a very hands-on project, but an exciting time for Roane County Schools.
