  2. Presentations
    1. Positively ChargedKatie Cummings, RCHS Student, was recognized for her participation in Educators Rising. She won first place in the state and placed 2nd individually at the national level in the interview competition. RCHS Band participated in Viking Fest at Ripley High School. In the smaller division, they placed first in their class and was awarded Outstanding Show Design. Also, Zane Tanner and Daisy Burke will have the honor in being a part of the Macy's Great American Marching Band at the Macy's Parade on Thanksgiving Day.
    2. Public ParticipationBill Monterosso, Executive Director of the Work Force Development Board, presented on Career Connections, an employment and training program serving youth in 9 counties. They are looking to partner with schools to start training earlier to allow a smother transition into the work force. Dr. Carroll Christiansen (Family Health Care), Dr. Brent Watson (Roane General Hospital), and Suzanne Rector (WEMS Teacher), spoke in support of a mask mandate in the schools.
    3. School Spotlight: Geary Elementary Middle SchoolAnnette Claypool, GEMS Principal, showcased projects, technology, data, and successful GEMS Alumni.
    4. Division Spotlight: Curriculum & Instructional SupportCarla Brown, Curriculum Director, presented on the various duties performed and responsibilities overseen by Curriculum and Instructional Support, such as Title I services, family engagement, Title IV, and RLIS.

  3. New Business for Consideration and Potential Action
    1. Recommendation to suspend and terminate contract of Employee AMotion by James Minney and seconded by Gregory Boggs to go into closed session this discuss this personnel item, as per WV Code 6-9A-4(b)(2)(A). Motion carried. (9:32 pm)Motion by James Minney and seconded by Eileen Richardson to return to open session. Motion carried. No action was taken in closed session. (9:41 pm)Motion by James Minney and seconded by Gregory Boggs to approve the unpaid suspension of LPN/Aide, Carol Chapman, from October 18, 2021, through October 21, 2021, and termination effective October 22, 2021. Motion carried. (9:42 pm)
    2. Proposed Updated Mitigation Strategies for Communicable DiseasesMotion by Gregory Boggs and seconded by James Minney to amend the updated mitigation strategies for communicable diseases to a "3% threshold" in order to require face masks at a particular school. Motion failed. Jeffrey Mace, Eileen Richardson opposed.(9:24 pm)Motion by Eileen Richardson and seconded by James Minney to approve the updated mitigation strategies for communicable diseases as proposed by the Superintendent. Motion carried. Gregory Boggs opposed.(9:25 pm)

    1. Roane Jackson Technical Center Administrative Council (10/19/2021)
    2. FFA / 4-H Livestock Show and SaleMr. Minney reported that he was proud of what he saw at the FFA Barn this past weekend. Most people were masking, as they were supposed to. Many thanks to all the volunteers that made this event possible. With 79 animals showed, 76 animals sold for over $187,000. Over $2000 was raised for the scholarship fund, over $1,000 raised in for Junior Leadership and raffle tickets were sold by the FFA to pay for their trip to the National Convention in Indiana. It is impressive to see the discipline these students have and the hard work they have contributed.
  7. Superintendent's RemarksNovember 9th is recommended as the LSIC meeting at RCHS Auditorium. For construction updates, the preliminary schematic design has been approved and we are now moving onto the design and development stage while Thrasher works on the 3D walk-thru to present to the public. There is one company that is interested in putting in a bid for the project. At WEMS, the new door locks were reviewed, ceiling grid is in, and the flooring will be put in soon. Overall, it should take should take 1 or 2 months at WEMS to be finished. At GEMS, we are meeting with Thrasher to address the drainage issues on the library path next week. The monthly statewide meeting for Superintendents is in Fairmont tomorrow.
