8. Superintendent's RemarksWVDE informed us that we are one of the randomly selected 200 middle and high schools in the state to participate in the Youth Risk Behavior Survey, a replacement of what was called the Culture and Climate Survey at the state level. I spoke with Mr. Cummings concerning the Grow Your Own program for teachers. A new program was created at the state level last year but a similar program was removed from the state's approved CTE offerings, effectively ending the program we had running for many years. We believe we can get it back, but because it is no longer a CTE program, we will no longer get the CTE-related funding for the teacher and the activities related to that particular program. So there are now some questions on how these things will be paid for. At the West Virginia Association of School of Human Resources Officials, I was elevated to President after 3 years as President-elect due to COVID. All our counties are facing the same issues and we hope to address these issues with an active association. At the meeting with the State Superintendent, we saw that all our counties had good programs but staffing was a big issue and that is not something we can address on our own. We have our next Superintendent meeting scheduled in January, which is assumed to be about the legislative session, which will be open before we meet again.
