8. Superintendent's RemarksOn Tuesday, Ms. Lori Cottrell and I were in Charleston to participate in the state Teacher of the Year ceremony. She was recognized as one of the 55 county teachers of the year, receiving a grant and other gifts. The state service person of the year was from Cabell County and the state teacher of the year was from Wayne County. The State Board of Education met yesterday. Much of the discussion was about a new discipline law. We are officially on the state's list on the state's list of Grow Your Own. We offered it in years past under a different name, but we technically didn't offer it last year. From WVDE, we received a notice of our excess levying capacity. Ours has increased significantly over the last few years, totaling $4.6 million each year for 5 years. As we are getting closer to October 1st, which is our date for enrollment, the picture does not look good. Talking to some colleagues, enrollment appears to have dropped once again statewide. We also know that after this year, ESSER money goes away and we're having discussions about how to deal with that going forward.
