    1. Positively ChargedStudents were recognized for the following academic achievements during the 2023-24 school year: Walton Elementary Middle School County Spelling Bee - Cora Raines (Runner up) Regional Science Fair - Hayden Rector (1st), Brycen Craft (1st), Caden White (1st) Eli Hays(2nd), Cheyanne Funk (2nd) State Science Fair - Hayden Rector (1st), Brycen Craft(3rd) and Caden White (3rd) Young Writers Contest - Olivia Raines (1st for grades 1-2), Jordyn Nichols (1st for grades 5-6), and Addison Lowe (1st for grades 7-8), Caden White (Honorable Mention in grades 3-4) Math Field Day - Briana Teel (top scorer for grades 4-6) Geary Elementary Middle School County Spelling Bee - Ian Hall (1st), Shaiden Starcher (3rd), Jaden Lanham (4th) Black Walnut Festival Art Competition - Liam Sloan (1st), Faith Melara (2nd), Karmyn Holt (3rd), Conner McCune (Honorable Mention) Poca Valley Bank Christmas Card Competition - Jaden Lanham (Overall), Jaelynn Runyon (GEMS) Roane County High School Gabriel Gainer, Sawyer Hunt, Lexi Mitchell and Lacy Mitchell went to Oklahoma for the National Land Judging competition. Lacy earned 3rd place in individual on the home side evaluation and the team was the reserve national champion team. On top of that, she earned 10th place in individual and national land judging in addition to the team earning third place in the nation. Theresa Parker presented the 2024 Social Studies Fair results. Of the 33 Roane County projects, 18 projects qualified for the Regionals in Parkersburg and then 7 moved on to the State Social Studies Fair where Katherine Stump-Cohen placed 3rd and Ella Wilson and Braxton Nichols both received honorable mentions.
    2. Public ParticipationSteve Kinder (RCHS family) and Anthony Thornabarr (RCHS parent), expressed their concerns for baseball and athletics in Roane County. RCHS Students, Braxon Nichols and Ella Wilson, spoke in support of their FBLA chapter and requested support for their 10 members that plan to attend the National Leadership Conference in Florida next month, representing Roane County Schools and West Virginia.
  3. New Business for Consideration and Potential Action
    1. SBA MIP Proposal - Safety and Security Upgrades to RCHS and SMS

    3. Possible Sale or Disposal of Board Property Known as the Madison Avenue ComplexMotion by Dennis Carpenter and seconded by Eileen Richardson to go into closed session to discuss property matters as per WV Code 6-9A-4(b)(9). Motion carried. (6:46 pm)Motion by James Minney and seconded by Eileen Richardson to return to open session. Motion carried. No action was taken in closed session. (7:07 pm)Motion by Daris Harper and seconded by James Minney to pursuant to West Virginia Code Section 18-5-7b, for Roane County to declare certain tracts of land, designated for tax purposes as Map 5, Parcels 166, 167, 170, and 171, situated in Spencer Corp. District, as no longer needed for school purposes upon the conveyance of certain tracts of land, designated for tax purposes as Map 5, Parcels 166, 167, 170, and 171, to Freshwater Family Foundation Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation, under the terms and conditions of the deed presented to the Board for consideration, and to authorize the President and/or the Superintendent of the Board to execute the deed and any and all other documents necessary for conveyance of the property. Motion carried. (7:13 pm)
      1. Consideration and possible action, pursuant to West Virginia Code Section 18-5-7b, to declare certain tracts of land, designated for tax purposes as Map 5, Parcels 166, 167, 170, and 171, situate in Spencer Corp. District, as no longer needed for school purposes.
      2. Consideration and possible action, pursuant to West Virginia Code Section 18-5-7b, to convey certain tracts of land, designated for tax purposes as Map 5, Parcels 166, 167, 170, and 171, to _______________________, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation, under the terms and conditions of the deed presented to the Board for consideration, and consideration and possible action to authorize the President and/or the Superintendent of the Board to execute the deed and any and all other documents necessary for conveyance of the property.

  6. Reports of Committees
  7. Superintendent's RemarksSBA meeting was held yesterday in Charleston. Tomorrow, WVASA will meet in Bridgeport with Mr. Seufer for annual legal updates. Awards Night is a week from tonight and RCHS Graduation is the week after that. Our summer program is gearing up. The new SMS continues on pace with furniture coming in 3 weeks. Contractors get their first punch list next week. Ribbon-cutting ceremony will likely be in late July or early August. The County Commission will certify the excess levy election before any levy rates can be proposed, which will require a meeting in addition to the regularly scheduled meeting on the 23rd. Superintendent and Board Evaluations will be done on June 13th.
