    Compensation
    Salary based on experience and education level per Roane County salary schedule. Expected range: $42,880 (0 years + Bachelor's) - $75,219 (35 years + Doctorate).
    Health and basic life insurance provided through West Virginia's Public Employees Insurance Agency. Health insurance premiums, which vary by plan and coverage level, split 80/20 between employer and employee. Basic life insurance provided at no cost to the employee.
    Position requires enrollment in the Teachers Retirement System through West Virginia Consolidated Public Retirement Board. New enrollees contribute 6% of gross salary with a matching contribution by the Board of 7.5%. Vestment requires 10 years of qualified service. Withdraw of employee contributions available upon leaving employment with a WV county board of education if deisred.
    15.75 annual days of personal leave provided, pro-rated for those hired after the start of the current employment term. Up to 4 days may be used each school year without cause pursuant to state and local policies.
    Pro-rated local attendance incentive (up to $500) provided for those who use fewer than 6 days of personal leave each school year.

    Qualifications
    Meet qualifications as outlined in West Virginia Code §18A-4-7a
    Meet minimum standards for certification as set forth by the West Virginia Board of Education in Minimum Standards for Licensure of West Virginia School Personnel
    Earned a bachelor’s degree in education with an endorsement in Multi-Categorical Special Education is required. Endorsement in an additional special education area(s) preferred
    Proficiency in conducting transition assessments, developing individualized transition plans, and collaborating with various stakeholders is essential. Knowledge of evidence-based practices in transition planning and service delivery preferred.
    Exhibit knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of the special education teacher and the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as demonstrated in a personnel interview, which will be weighted heavily in the search/selection process.
    Show ability to communicate effectively with students, school personnel, parents, and community members.
    Show ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.
    Show ability to motivate others and lead them to become highly effective educators
    Possess good evaluations and/or recommendations from educational instructors, professional associates, employers, and/or supervisors.
    Responsibilities
    Supervise the implementation and utilization of the PAES lab located at Roane County High School.
    Assist schools with maintaining compliance with all postsecondary transition mandates including State Performance Plan Indicators 13 and 14. Designs, distributes, compiles, copies and disseminates forms to collect data related to the progress of student work-based learning experiences, and preparation for transition to postsecondary opportunities.
    Develop collaborative relationships with general education teachers/staff, administrators, and external partners/outside agencies that will benefit students with IEPs in a seamless transition from school to post-secondary opportunities in the world or work, education, and training.
    Actively participate in IEP/transition teams to develop and review transition plans, outcomes, services, and linkages to adult service agencies. Serve as a resource for IEP transition teams, adult services personnel, coordinators of community services, Division of Rehabilitative Services counselors, and other stakeholders.
    Assist with student career interests, skills, and knowledge by conducting secondary transition assessments, providing training, coaching, and feedback related to postsecondary transition planning for case managers, teachers, department chairs, IEP chairs, parents, school counselors, and career and technology education teachers. Support planning and implementation of transition forums/fairs for parents and students county wide with agency representatives attending.
    Collaborate with stakeholders (e.g., job coaches, outside agencies, Project SEARCH, Job Corps, teachers, families, etc.) to provide secondary transition services and activities to ensure a smooth transition from school to post-secondary opportunities in a work setting for middle and high school students.
    Provide transition information, technical assistance, and professional development to teachers, IEP team members, parents, students, and other interested parties in a variety of formats.
    Provide support and assistance in implementing programming of special education and related services to principals, teachers, and staff.
    Model effective teaching practices with high school and middle school special educators as needed, and facilitate the dissemination of best practices regarding curriculum and instructional methodology, to include observing classrooms to identify educator support needs
    Coordinate the delivery of technical assistance to special educators as directed for district and school support
    Support assigned special educators in utilizing data sources to make informed educational decisions for students
    Support the implementation of required federal, state, and local policies and procedures affecting students with disabilities
    Perform other duties as assigned.
