Qualifications
- Meet qualifications as outlined in West Virginia Code 18A-4-7a.
- Meet minimum standards for certification as set forth by the West Virginia Board of Education in Minimum Standards for Licensure of West Virginia School Personnel.
- Exhibit knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of the classroom teacher and the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as demonstrated in a personnel interview, which will be weighed heavily in the search/selection process.
- Show ability to communicate effectively with students, school personnel, parents, and community members.
- Show ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.
- Show ability to motivate students and lead them to become independent learners.
- Present evidence of high academic achievement in teacher preparation program.
- Possess good evaluations and / or recommendations from educational instructors, professional associates, employers, and/or supervisors.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver lessons to assigned students, including remediation, practice, and enrichment levels, with a focus on positive behavioral instruction and support.
- Facilitate individual, small group, and large group behavioral intervention environments as needed.
- Model new and innovative strategies, best practices and research-based behavioral strategies/techniques, while providing demonstration teaching.
- Develop a systematic approach for the seamless integration of behavior supports and interventions into the classroom.
- Maintain professional work habits demonstrating cooperation and flexibility in working with school instructional staff.
- Attend appropriate local and state meetings and conferences.
- Attend professional training as needed.
- Keep abreast of current research on student behavioral support.
- Keep abreast of current behavioral support and intervention strategies and learning models.
- Utilize and implement instructional management systems designed for remediation of reading difficulties.
- Evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe appropriate programs to meet student needs.
- Communicate with classroom teachers to insure appropriateness of intervention techniques.
- Perform assigned duties as assigned by the principal or assigned director.
