Qualifications
- Currently hold or previously held classification of Aide, or passage of state competency exam for Aide
- Must hold valid license as a Licensed Practical Nurse from the WV State Board of Examiners for Licensed Practical Nurses
- Be able to communicate with adults, follow directions, accept supervision, and be compatible with working with children
- Current CPR training preferred
- Be capable of lifting and maneuvering wheelchairs up/down ramps if applicable
- Be able to handle and care for wheelchairs, braces, crutches, etc., and be able to administer any medication to students while in their charge, only when the following conditions are met: a) Written directions from the attending physician, which includes the requirements specifying frequency and method of administration, and a description of anticipated reactions of the student to the medication. b) Written parental consent. c) Written authorization from the Superintendent or the Superintendent designee. d) The medication is taken from a properly labeled medicine container to insure positive identification of the student. e) The medication is locked in a safe place.
- Act in the capacity as Supervisory Aide as directed by the school administration

Responsibilities
- Meet children at designated bus stops/school and help those children to school/bus as required
- Alert teachers/building administrator to any problems or special information about children’s problems
- Work with and assist students designated to be special needs or special education.
- Perform tasks, i.e. making copies, preparing bulletin boards, as designated by the teacher
- Perform or assist children to perform those functions which they are incapable of doing, i.e. feeding, toileting, dressing, lifting, etc.
- Under supervision of the teacher, work with small groups of students to reinforce material introduced by the teacher
- Distribute and collect workloads, paper, and other instructional materials
- Read to students, listen to students read, and participate in other forms of oral communication with students
- Assist students to master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher
- Assist with lunch, snack, and other routine cleanup
- Assist students with media center, library activities, and auxiliary classes as needed
- Makes reports, record data, administers tests as directed by the teacher
- Perform care procedures for impaired students. These may include suctioning, nasogastric tube feeding, catheterization, and dietetic testing.
- Provide prescribed medical care or assistance under the supervision of the School Health Nurse to include, but not limited to, administering medication, testing blood sugar, etc.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students
- Demonstrate the ability to remain and respond calmly and objectively to a variety of situations
- Provide a variety of behavior management techniques in a crisis situation before resorting to passive restraint
- Assist with maintaining a structured learning environment through appropriate organization of time, space arrangements, and material organization
- Implement established rules, instructions, preventive discipline, and other environmental stimuli to bring about significant changes in student functioning
- Follow lesson plans developed for instructional, social, academic, and emotional skills and objectives
