    Qualifications

    1. Currently hold or previously held classification of Cook, or passage of state competency exam for Cook
    2. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

    Responsibilities

    1. Demonstrate an understanding of the information from food labels
    2. Explain the meaning of the ingredients list
    3. Assist in developing menus
    4. Evaluate menus to determine whether they meet USDA requirements
    5. Prepare salads and cold items
    6. Prepare and cook fruits, vegetable, and starches
    7. Prepare and cook sandwiches
    8. Prepare and cook soups and sauces
    9. Prepare and cook breakfast items
    10. Prepare and cook entrees
    11. Prepare miscellaneous food and beverages
    12. Evaluate different methods of preparation appropriate to specific meats, vegetables, salads, and quick breads
    13. Determine appropriate food temperatures for service
    14. Describe and demonstrate the correct procedure for rehydration of dehydrated products
    15. Assist in performing buying, inventory, receiving, and stocking functions
    16. Measure, mix, and cook ingredients according to recipes
    17. Be familiar with terms associated with food products, such as: enriched, fortified, juice, drink, and imitation
    18. Be familiar with measurement abbreviations
    19. Estimate food requirements
    20. Assist in planning meals
    21. Exhibit the ability to maintain a storeroom inventory system
