Adopted on February 7, 2019
Effective February 7, 2019
- For the purposes of these guidelines, "programs of study" shall refer generally to the courses and other curricular and co-curricular academic opportunities made available to the students of a school.
- A program of study shall be developed for each school, though more general programs may be developed for each programmatic level as defined in West Virginia Board of Education 2510 and collectively adopted to form the program of study for one or more schools.
- The program of study for each school shall be recommended by the Superintendent to the Board for adoption prior to the beginning of each academic year.
- Each school principal shall ensure that the school's program of study is made available to all teachers, students, parents, and other interested parties. The school's program of study shall be part of the school's student and employee handbooks and may be made available as such.
- Only those courses detailed in a school's approved program of study for a particular academic year may be offered to students at that school during that academic year, though alterations to the school's approved program of study may be recommended by the Superintendent for Board approval throughout that academic year.
- Care shall be exercised in the development of each program of study to comply with the requirements of West Virginia Board of Education Policy 2510 and other applicable federal and state law and policy.
- Care shall be exercised in the development of each program of study to maximize student participation in college- and career-readiness efforts in concert with each student's Personalized Education Plan.
- Nothing in these guidelines shall serve to limit student participation in curricular and/or co-curricular activities.
