Effective February 7, 2019
Mountaineer ChalleNGe Academy
Parents may request placement in the Mountaineer ChalleNGe Academy pursuant to the admission requirements of the same.
Explusions
Pursuant to West Virginia Board of Education Policy 4373, students who have been expelled must be placed in the Roane County Alternative Learning Center program unless also found to be a "dangerous student" under the definition and procedures provided in WVBE Policy 4373.
School Referrals
Prior to recommendation for placement in an alternative learning program, the principal shall ensure that the following has taken place:
- Interventions or adherence to a behavior intervention plan must occur.
- Data related to the effects of these interventions must be collected to inform the determination of a student's response to intervention.
- If these interventions are successful, the student shall remain in their current placement and not placed in an alternative learning program. If the interventions are not successful, then the SAT or IEP team may proceed to recommend placement in an alternative learning program.
- If the student has an IEP or 504 plan, the Director of Special Education or designee shall be involved in the placement process.
Recommendations for placement in an alternative learning program shall include:
- SAT or IEP team meeting documentation including information used in the decision to make such a recommendation
- Discipline, attendance, academic, and intervention data, as well as any additional relevant data
- Completed referral form, signed by the principal and SAT or IEP team chair
These recommendations shall be submitted to the Superintendent for consideration and potential placement.
