    Adopted on August 11, 2022

    Effective August 11, 2022

    1. It is the responsibility of all Board employees to ensure that measures are taken to safeguard the security of all individuals present at school, including students, staff, parents, family members, and visitors.
    2. All visitors to a school must enter and exit through the designation main entrance. Only students and staff regularly assigned to a school may enter and / or exit through the alternate front entrance of the building, and only during designated times prior to the beginning and after the end of the instructional day.
    3. All visitors to a school must report to the individual designed to receive visitors and immediately make known their reason for entering the building to that individual.
    4. All visitors must have a prior arranged appointment to enter a school building with the only exceptions being a parent(s) or family member(s) retrieving a student currently in attendance or a known and properly identified vendor making a delivery to the school.
    5. If permitted access to the building beyond the designated waiting area, all visitors must be given an badge, sticker, placard, or other instrument clearly identifying him / her as a visitor. The visitor must always display the identification instrument given to them in a prominent location until exiting the building. Just prior to exiting the building, the identification instrument must be surrendered to the individual designated to receive visitors and the visitor must then immediately proceed to leave the school campus.
    6. Any individual in a school building may be challenged to provide identification at any time by any member of the school community. Anyone refusing to provide identification or who provides identification which does not clearly make known his / her purpose for being in the school must be reported to building administration immediately.
    7. All exterior doors must remain closed unless in use and may not be propped or held open in any way unless an authorized staff member or student is currently passing through it.
    8. All windows must remain closed unless in use for emergency egress purposes during a drill or an actual emergency.
    9. No one may prevent an automatic door closing mechanism from properly functioning and all doors with such devices must be allowed to close fully when not in use.
    10. Each Board employee shall be issued an identification badge, which may also function to allow access through doors with electronic access controls and must display this badge at all times while engaged in his / her employment in or around a school campus.
    11. A Board employee may be issued a physical key providing access through a door(s) with mechanical lock(s).
    12. The badges and keys as in 10 and 11 must only be in the possession of the employee to which they are assigned, and any use of these by anyone else – even other authorized Board employees – is prohibited.
    13. An accurate and timely inventory of all badges and keys as in 10 and 11 shall be kept and made available as needed to supervisors, human resources officials, and law enforcement.
    14. In the event of a “lockdown” drill or actual emergency, the building principal or other designated administrator shall notify the Superintendent, Director of Operations, and law enforcement using the designated mode of communication.
