    Adopted on August 11, 2022

    Effective August 11, 2022

    1. Social media accounts which purport to serve as an official communication mode of the Board, one of its schools, and/or a school-sponsored or -affiliated group, team, or organization, must be authorized in writing by the Superintendent.
    2. Any authorized official social media account must be registered in such a way as to tie any credentials, email address, etc., to only those officially issued by the Board or the state. On a platform which requires individual accounts to manage official group pages and/or accounts (such as Meta’s Facebook), only those individual accounts registered to Board-issued email addresses and used solely for official purposes while in employment of the Board may manage such pages.
    3. The content of any authorized official social media account must reflect the official policies and guidelines of the Board at all times and may not be used for personal, political, religious, or any other matters unrelated to the Board, its schools, and its educational and extracurricular programs.
    4. The content of any authorized official social media account must be maintained and / or archived to comply with various laws and policies regarding public records. This may include direct messages sent to an account by a member of the public and comments or other feedback public posted directly in response to content, provided that the use of such content by others in a manner as to replicate the content in a public manner under their account (i.e., “sharing”) is not considered a public record under the current understanding of applicable laws and policies.
    5. Any open comment or feedback mechanism that is permitted in response to content of any authorized official social media account shall be considered to establish a limited public forum and as such shall not be censored or filtered except in such a way as to limit obscene, vulgar, or violent speech. Those operating such accounts are encouraged to disable such mechanisms, if possible, unless such feedback is expressly sought in the particular content or item for which it is enabled.
