    6. Property matters involving Walton Elementary Middle and Geary Elementary Middle SchoolsAt this time, Roane County Schools has taken no action regarding the properties. After consulting with legal counsel, we must wait until after June 30 to declare them surplus and consider disposal options, including public auction. The EDA was approached by an outside party but chose not to move forward. Until June 30, everything remains on hold, and our official position is that no decisions have been made about these properties.

Roane Jackson Technical Center Administrative Council (2/17/26)Mr. Carpenter reported that the council reviewed financials, accepted a practical nursing instructor's resignation, and approved a $139,549 change order for parking lot and drainage improvements on the new HVHC/electrical building, which is nearing completion. He also noted that bidding will begin soon for the roof replacement on Building B and provided updates on adult programs, ongoing building projects, and the legislative session. CTE Day at the Legislature is next Friday, the 27th, with students attending to present displays and advocate for CTE funding.

Superintendent's RemarksThe Superintendent reported meeting with County Assessor Emily Westfall to learn more about property assessments, noting that the county's tax base is expected to rise again despite enrollment declines. She shared updates on social studies fairs and highlighted key takeaways from the National Conference on Education, especially the need for an AI policy, safer in-house AI tools, expanded work-based learning, and improved district communication strategies. She also provided a brief legislative update, noting increased interaction with lawmakers and ongoing discussions about school-related bills.
