Policy AG 250ii - Selection of Supplemental Instructional Materials

Effective January 24, 2019
- All supplemental instructional materials shall be approved by the Superintendent prior to their purchase or use in the classroom.
- "Supplemental instructional materials" shall be defined as those materials not adopted and approved by the Board of Education as the primary instructional materials of a particular course or program of study and which are used to provide significant instructional guidance or delivery. They shall not include materials used as informational resources provided to students in the completion of instructional activities.
- In determining whether a supplemental instructional material should be approved, the following criteria shall be considered:
- Research-based practices
- Availability and applicability of existing and future data on student achievement
- Duplication of existing materials
- Sustainability and effectiveness regarding school improvement
- Availability of electronic materials to students outside the school environment
- All requests for approval of supplemental instructional materials shall be made on the form as prescribed by the Superintendent.
