    Effective February 7, 2019

    1. For the purposes of these guidelines, "interscholastic athletic programs" shall include those programs governed by the West Virginia Secondary Schools Athletic Commission (WVSSAC) and whose purpose is to field competition between students in the Board's schools and students at other Board schools or at schools outside the County.
    2. Pursuant to RCBOE Policy 230:
    3. Prior to enrolling in an interscholastic athletic program, "each participant shall submit to a thorough physical examination by a Board-approved physician" and the parents of each "shall report any past or current health problems along with a physician's statement that any such problems are being treated and pose no threat to the student's participation."
    4. "Any student who is found to have a health condition which may be life-threatening to self or others shall not situation has been analyzed by physician licensed to practice in the State of West Virginia that has determined the conditions under which the student may participate."
    5. "Any student who incurs an injury requiring a physician's care is to have the written approval of a physician prior to the student's return to participation."
    6. At the request of the school principal and with the approval of the Board, auxiliary assistant coaches may be hired. Such auxiliary coaches shall receive the nominal compensation of $1 and shall be considered employed by the Board only in support of the interscholastic athletic program that he / she is hired to serve. Such auxiliary coaches shall be properly certified as a professional employee or authorized as a coach by the State Superintendent of Schools pursuant to West Virginia Board of Education Policy 5202. Such auxiliary coaches shall be offered a contract in effect only for the academic year in which he / she is hired, and shall be required to reapply and be rehired by the Board in any successive years if so recommended by the school principal and Superintendent pursuant to a legal posting.
    7.  All participants shall follow the Code for Interscholastic Athletics as provided in WVSSAC Rules and Regulations Series 4 Provisions Governing Conduct.
