Roane County Schools will ensure implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and follow guidance for such processes given by the West Virginia Department of Education. This is to include such processes as Support for Personalized Learning, Response to Intervention and Student Assistance Teams and be in alignment with Policy 2419 and 2510.

    1. Procedures for using diagnostic assessments - The major purpose of diagnostic assessments is to provide information for planning more effective instruction. Diagnostic assessments should be conducted by teachers to help differentiate instruction and adjust the degree and type of scaffolding. If data drawn shows a pattern of insufficient response to instruction, further assessments may be administered to identify the specific area(s) of need. Furthermore, the information diagnostic assessments can provide may be needed when a data pattern indicates instruction is not challenging a student. The earlier an issue is detected, the greater the likelihood of change for the student. It is important that schools have a system for utilizing all assessment types in the intervention process.
    2. Classroom-based intervention strategies as well as other intervention strategies that will be used - The foundation of the intervention process is the classroom teacher and their delivery of high-quality, research-based instruction provided to all students. This is a fundamental principle of MTSS. However, the way in which the instruction is delivered should vary based on individual students' needs. The intervention process to be used is that of the MTSS process and systemic approach for identifying and addressing students' learning needs. Further guidance from the state and county will be provided.
    3. Procedures for the collection of student-performance data and using it to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention Strategies and to evaluate the instructional program - These procedures are to follow the MTSS process. (identify & define needs; gather & analyze data to define issues; develop a plan; implement & monitor the plan; evaluate & adjust the plan)
